GRACE RIVERA PHOTOGRAPHED THE FOUNDER OF ZOOM, ERIC YUAN, VIA ZOOM FOR THE COVER OF ENTREPRENEUR

For the December cover of Entrepreneur, Grace was commissioned to shoot Zoom founder Eric Yuan virtually—using Zoom, of course. “This was a particularly challenging assignment, considering the technical limitations of shooting virtually," says Grace. "I was asked to capture a few different options for the cover, as well as imagery for the article itself.

Eric was at his home in San Jose, CA, and was dressed in a casual blazer and dress shirt and, funnily enough, track pants. Very relatable. The week this assignment happened, I literally moved into my apartment on Monday and was shooting on Thursday, having just had my internet installed that very morning.

One of the most crucial factors when shooting virtually is a strong connection so that the resolution is as good as it can possibly be. Eric was very warm and generous with his time. His wife actually held the computer in some shots so I could get a particular composition. Overall, extremely tough assignment, considering I had no control over the lighting or the environment he was in. Just had to make the best of what there was to work with!”
