ERIN MILLER WRAY DESIGNS MURAL FOR VICEROY HOTEL SANTA MONICA

“This is my tallest design—I operated an 85-foot boom lift in the ocean wind! Because it was so tall and narrow, we could have only two people on the lift at a time. It was my assistant and me, and it took us five days to complete. My assistant and I definitely needed our sea legs, but we did it!

I created this design with the history of Santa Monica and the Viceroy in mind. Both have evolved over the years and are changing to embrace the lifestyle of the area, and that includes showcasing artists. My focus was to build community through this piece. The mural invites people in to experience the hotel, but it also offers a piece of public art that will resonate with the community."

"This project was unique because we designed and installed the mural during the COVID-19 pandemic when everything was shut down. At the time, I saw lots of brands investing in artwork and beautification projects. This project also benefited the Viceroy, as they were able to keep their brand active on social media by sharing the art and installation process at a time when traveling and staying at hotels were restricted.”

The Viceroy describes the mural as "a poetic reflection of Santa Monica's beauty, 'Endless' captivates us with its mid-century-modern shapes, colors, and clean lines."
