ASHLEY ARMITAGE SHOOTS AND DIRECTS ADIDAS 'COLLECTIVE POWER' CAMPAIGN

The overarching theme of the campaign, says Ashley, is that "as femmes we are strong, but when we come together, we are an unstoppable force."

“This project is special to me because it's all about togetherness, collectivity, and giving space to women, women of color, and LGBTQ+ folks," she explains. "This ethos extended to both the people in front of the camera, and behind. We made it a priority to hire women, non-binary, and LGBTQ+ folks. Projects like these are so important not only on International Women's Day, but on every single day of the year."

"Almost 10 years ago, when I started booking jobs, I’d get to set and people would ask me if I was the makeup artist, the stylist, the stylist’s assistant—AKA any of the jobs that are predominantly female. There have always been exceptions, but for the most part, the industry has historically been male-dominated, and white/cis/straight male-dominated, at that. I feel like we've made strides over the last several years but there's still a lot more work to be done. Projects like these push us forward to a more inclusive future.”
